The idea behind W.E.Students is pretty basic; to give aspiring young writers, of any kind, a blog they can contribute to, without being another obscure blogger within the millions already on the internet.
The plan for W.E.Students is to develop a community of aspiring writers where they can publish their work as evidence for university/job applications, as well as their own blogs too if they wish, to be able to say that they are part of something, and have had some experience, however small, as part of a writing community.
Universities and employers expect to see as much evidence of your writing as possible, and while anything officially published is best, its hard to get, so blogs are the next best thing, and the more you can do the better. However, there aren’t a lot of opportunities for a student with little or no experience, and besides writing something for your school or local newspaper, there isn’t a lot you can do. The problem is that as universities become more and more competitive they are expecting more and more from their applicants, and school qualifications count for less and less. Bottom line is you NEED to write, as much as possible, as often as possible! Here at W.E.Students, we’re all in the same boat, and after months and months of digging through application after application, being turned down by every single one of them for having no experience, I realized it was hopeless expecting someone to give me any chance to get my foot in the door. Conclusion: Make a doorstop; and that is the story of W.E.Students, to not just get my foot in the door, but hold the door for others too.
No experience necessary to join, just send an example of your writing and we’ll get back to you!
